Daily Drawing Prompts

I started teaching basketry in 1978, and taught private groups and through The City of Akron. Over the years I created and ran the art department of ACAMP in Akron, Mobile Art Classes for Everyone in North East Ohio rehab centers, Creativity & Crave at Crave Cantina featuring on site projects with Latin American History.

I am available to teach workshops on a wide variety of artistic topics for varying ages and group sizes, please send me an email if you’re interested in my rates.

The photos below are from a series of workshops with The Akron Art Museum that included painting terra cotta pots to look like energy domes, welding energy dome stained glass sun catchers, and a History & HOW to make zines.

I created an alphabet all Octopus bending into letter shapes. Original drawing and pieces were sold at several gallery shows, and commissions were created. The art is currently still being developed into a typeable font.

I was recommended by DAP to The Akron Zoological Park to design and paint over 10,000 square feet of exhibit walls. I organized a volunteer team, spent 9 months implementing and 3 months following up on repairs and changes. They had never worked with an artist who designed a color palette carried through the entire exhibit. It was on display for 5 years. I received two letters of appreciation from President Obama for the amount of volunteer time and talent I donated.

I had the privilege to apprentice under Rick Fisher, aka SikRik Laytex Mask Maker. We sculpted a mold, poured, filled and painted over 30 tentacles. GayGames9 displayed a pride themed set at Flair Fest in Akron, Ohio. We hosted a temtacle show of the large variety we created at Studio 2091.

Returning to the Akron Zoological Park. Painting murals in the Lemurs of Madagascar Habits. I got to spend several days on display, and then return to see the lemurs using the spaces.

A local business had a tragic accident happen, when a car blasted through their front wall and destroyed all iconic exterior art. It was a frozen January 16 degrees out, I offered to paint a fast sign for them, so they would not lose any further business because the front was boarded up with plywood. It is a bistro known for their amazing chowder and sea food options.

Group Shows are a great way to stay connected to your art community. You have the opportunity to try projects on an individual basis without creating an entire body of work. Here are some of mine.

Invited by Derby Girl Val Walker aka BF Goodbytch, to create art from a plaster cast of her bust to raise money for the Stewart Caring Place.

Was paid handsomely to create & paint a 9X9 foot, a 5X5 foot canvas of art, unitards to camouflage into my artwork and 6 other works of art or cars, and live paint a 4 X 8 foot mural on plexiglass providing a dramatic reveal at end of evening. I had 12 days from job offer to opening evening to complete all tasks.

A photographic show of images created by Gary L Blaine and Amy Mothersbaugh. All are split-mirrored images that allow a lot of interpretation for the abstract imagination, though all subjects were PG rated at the time of photography.

I was invited to chalk the sidewalk at Akron Children’s Hospital PAC Celebration, 3 years in a row. First Year I chalked an 8 foot x 9 foot space with a birds nest of eggs, and a large bird. Second Year a bridge over a koi pond, resulting in children in wheelchairs crossing over and back, feeling engaged. Third year did a tide pool of sea creatures featuring octopus and stepping stones.
